ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) DAY 2009

Event Description:
ACES is a one-day worldwide youth exercise program to get students moving in a celebration of fitness and unity.

Event objective: Bring attention to the efforts of Michigan physical education teachers and schools that are committed to the health of their students.

Key Planning Tasks:
  • Recruit schools to participate
  • Write, edit, design and print newsletters for participants (circulation: 450,000)
  • Select one participating school to host feature event
  • Work in partnership with statewide sponsor on media relations and feature event

  • Response:
  • 1,158 schools from all 83 Michigan counties
  • 466,997 students

    Media Relations Tactics:
    1. Provide each participating school with a template news release to personalize and send to local media.

    2. Choose one school of the as the feature school and media focus. In 2009, I worked with Fox 2 in Detroit to come to the selected school and participate in the event. I provided talking points to the reporter, and set up interviews with school representatives and students.
